On Monday evening, the French President visited the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, accompanied by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, where both sides signed the visitors' book.

The French President expressed his delight at visiting the Great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, noting the symbolism of this place in a city that holds centuries of history, civilizations, and religions.

Macron added in his message in the mosque's guestbook: "In this place, Roman temples and Christian churches bear witness to this ancient heritage, while the unity of the Syrian people forms the unifying thread of its history."

He added: "In these difficult times that the region is going through, Syria is rising up thanks to its people, thanks to its unity and its aspiration for the future. France is here, by your side. With my sincere friendship."

At the start of his visit to Syria yesterday, Macron announced that he had come to reaffirm France's commitment to supporting "a unified and sovereign Syria." He said: "I have come to reaffirm France's commitment to supporting the Syrian people in establishing a unified and sovereign Syria that will uphold pluralism and peace with its neighbors."

The French president announced that he intends to discuss the transitional period in Syria with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Macron arrived in Syria accompanied by a delegation of French business leaders who will participate in a roundtable meeting dedicated to the reconstruction of Syria.
