| Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations Arrest ten people |
Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations announced on Monday the arrest of ten people, including a minor, suspected of having links to the “ISIS” organization in the Sahel region and of involvement in terrorist plots.
According to a statement issued by the office, units affiliated with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance carried out operations "simultaneously" in several cities, including Agadir (south), Casablanca (west) and Tetouan (north), following investigations targeting a "terrorist cell".
The same source reported that the operations resulted in "the arrest of ten extremist individuals, suspected of being involved in carrying out this terrorist project," including a minor and a former prisoner in a case related to "counter-terrorism".
The statement said that investigations showed that "members of this terrorist cell pledged allegiance to the alleged caliph of the ISIS terrorist organization, and recently received direct instructions and communications from some leaders of this organization's branch in the Sahel and Sahara region."
Security forces also managed to find a "four-wheel drive vehicle, whose fuel tank had been modified inside a secret workshop to enable it to run on butane gas" in a warehouse in the city of Inezgane (south), "with the intention of using it to carry out a terrorist act through a suicide bombing or a car ramming attack against sensitive targets and facilities."
During the searches, police also seized bladed weapons, military uniforms, and detailed instructions on how to assemble explosive devices. The adults arrested were detained, while the minor was placed under supervision.
