| Malian army control of Anefis town in mali |
The Malian army's general staff reported that army units had regained control of the northeastern city of Anefis following a terrorist attack.
The Malian army's announcement came a week after its positions were attacked in the cities of Anefis, Gao, and Sévaré, as well as in the towns of Aguelhok and Kinyoroba. With the army's intervention, government forces brought the situation under control.
According to military data, 20 terrorists were neutralized in the city of Sévaré and six others in the city of Gao. The Malian army also announced the death of one friendly soldier and the wounding of four others.
A statement issued by the Malian army and published on its website reads: “The Malian Armed Forces, in coordination with partners, and after establishing full control over the town of Anefis, continue to reinforce their positions by carrying out sweep operations, particularly against armed terrorist groups affiliated with the (JNIM) organization and the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).”
The statement indicated that one airstrike was carried out, during which five other militants were eliminated.
On Friday, the Malian army's general staff reported that army units, supported by the Russian Africa Legion, killed nearly 100 militants and destroyed 12 pieces of military equipment.
For several years, Mali has been subjected to regular attacks by armed members of the Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) alliance, affiliated with the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, and Tuareg rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).
At the end of April, the Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) militants, in collaboration with the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA), launched a series of attacks on Malian government military and administrative installations. During the fighting, Mali's transitional government's defense minister, Sadio Camara, was killed, and the powers of the defense ministry were temporarily transferred to President Assimi Goïta.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that illegal armed groups in Mali, numbering approximately 12,000, attempted a coup on April 25. These militants were trained with the participation of European and Ukrainian instructors and mercenaries. Units of the African Legion prevented the coup from succeeding and averted significant civilian casualties.
