The UAE sounds the alarm: an immediate halt to the escalation before the region descends into violence

UAE Statement on Strait of Hormuz

The UAE expressed its deep concern over the rapid developments in the region in recent days, warning against sliding into new levels of violence and calling for an immediate cessation of all hostilities.

The statement stressed the vital importance of ensuring the freedom, safety, and continuity of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, considering that any disruption or threat to this strategic waterway represents a direct risk to the stability of the global economy and energy markets.

The statement also stressed a firm stance on the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that targeting civilian infrastructure – including schools, universities, hospitals, desalination plants, energy facilities, transport hubs and residential areas – is a flagrant and grave violation of established international law provisions and cannot be accepted or justified under any circumstances.

These statements come at a time of escalating regional and international concerns about the spread of tension, placing the responsibility for restraint and preventing bloodshed on all actors in the region.
