Indian media reported that Indian soldiers were involved in an exchange of fire with Pakistani forces on the border in the Kashmir region.
According to the Indian channel NDTV, a violent exchange of fire lasted for about two hours at the Line of Control on the Rajaori axis in Kashmir.
The channel added that Indian military personnel prevented those it described as "terrorists" from crossing the Indian border.
This became the biggest incident of its kind between Indian and Pakistani forces since the ceasefire was declared in May 2015 following the military escalation in the Kashmir region.
India launched a military operation in Kashmir in April 2025 following a bombing in the city of Pahlgam, and struck militant positions inside Pakistani territory, resulting in clashes between Indian and Pakistani forces.
Last May, the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army announced that the army was preparing to carry out a new military operation in the region if necessary.
