Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah sent a touching message to his Egyptian national team teammate Ahmed Hegazi, who officially announced his retirement from football on Saturday evening after a remarkable career.
Hegazi had announced his retirement after a career that included playing for several clubs in Egypt and abroad.
Salah posted pictures on his X platform account showing him with Ahmed Hegazi during his time with the Pharaohs, and commented, saying: "We lived a long journey together from our childhood, we enjoyed and had fun at every stage of it. Good luck in the future."
Ahmed Hegazi, 35, started his career with Ismaily Club and participated in the 2012 London Olympics, attracting the attention of several European clubs before officially joining Italian club Fiorentina.
Hegazi played for West Bromwich Albion in England before joining Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, then moved to Neom FC.
The veteran defender participated with the Egyptian national team during the 2018 World Cup and also played in the African Cup of Nations in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023.
