Alvin is motivated by the home support towards the Jaya Raya GP final

Indonesian men's singles player Alvin Jefferson Kusuma hopes the support of his teammates as hosts will provide added motivation when he appears in the U-17 final of the 2026 Yonex-Sunrise Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix.

Alvin secured his place in the final after defeating Muhamad Derajat Maulana in two straight games 21-14, 21-16 in the semifinals at the PB Jaya Raya Sports Hall, South Tangerang, Saturday.

"As the host, there will definitely be supporters from my teammates tomorrow, and this will be a boost for me," Alvin said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) after the match.

Alvin admitted that the game was tense, despite being able to build a lead over Derajat. This allowed his opponent to close in several times.

"We were actually far ahead today, but I was a little nervous, so I was easily overtaken," he said.

Alvin said he had met Derajat many times and had a better winning record. He believed his physical condition was one of the factors that allowed him to control the match.

"I've met Derajat many times, and I dominated. The key to that victory was my physical superiority, allowing me to control the game," said Alvin.

Success in reaching the U-17 final also opens up an opportunity for Alvin to repeat his success two years ago when he became champion in the U-15 category.

"Thank God I can return to the final after winning the U-15 category two years ago," he said.

Alvin hopes to close the tournament with a gold medal for his parents, coaches, and all those who have supported him.

"I hope to win gold and make my parents, coaches, and everyone who has supported me proud," said Alvin, who will face Japanese representative Taisesi Kushima in the final.
