Amr Moussa, the former Secretary-General of the Arab League, commented on the controversy surrounding the anger of officials and elites in some Gulf states towards him for not clearly condemning the Iranian attacks that targeted the Gulf states.
During his appearance on the podcast "A Date with Lamis," hosted by journalist Lamis El Hadidi, Moussa stated that it is not true that all Gulf countries adopt an angry stance towards him.
He added: “There may be some offensive comments on social media, but the main criticisms directed at me, from figures such as journalist Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed and UAE Minister of State Anwar Gargash, were measured and represent a viewpoint and opinion that is respected. The former even began his criticism, during a newspaper article, by saying: ‘Your Excellency, you know how much we love you,’ and I salute them, and when I meet them we will have a conversation on this matter.”
Regarding his lack of clear criticism of the Iranian attacks, and his description of Iran’s performance during the war as “intelligent resistance,” and the extent to which this provoked the Gulf states, Amr Moussa said that this resistance he described was in the face of a major power, the United States of America, and its “puppet,” referring to Israel, and this was the “point of the nut” in his speech.
He added: "But, on the other hand, of course, any attack on any Arab country in the Gulf is an attack on all of us, and this is my position that I have never backed down from."
He stressed that "there is no dispute with the Gulf states, but there may be a difference of opinion, without this affecting the mutual affection," emphasizing that there must be room for differences of opinion, and we remain brothers, without the affection between us being severed.
