Harlin E. Rahardjo, the Daily Chair of the Indonesian Aquatics Executive Board, said the presence of a new World Aquatics-standard swimming pool at Athlon Sawangan, Depok, West Java, can support athlete development while strengthening the national aquatics ecosystem.
Harlin believes that these facilities not only support athlete development but also have a positive impact on coaches, competition organizers, and sports industry players.
"This swimming pool was built to World Aquatics standards. With facilities like this, not only will athletes develop, but also coaches, event organizers, and sports industry players," Harlin said in an official statement following the inauguration of Athlon Sawangan in Depok on Saturday.
The Olympic-sized swimming pool is located in the Athlon Sawangan sports area, Bojongsari, Depok City.
Harlin is optimistic that the presence of international-standard facilities will support the birth of more aquatic athletes who can bring honor to Indonesia in various international competitions.
According to him, high-achieving aquatic athletes have the opportunity to make a major contribution to Indonesia's medal tally at multi-event events.
"If we have one or two truly accomplished athletes, they could contribute more than five gold medals at a multi-event event. That would certainly be a major contribution to Indonesia," he said.
