Aston Villa officially announce the arrival of Joao Gomes

Premier League club Aston Villa has officially announced the arrival of midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolves on a permanent transfer during this summer's transfer window.

Quoted from the club's official website, Monday, despite officially bringing in Gomes, Aston Villa has not yet announced the duration of the contract and the jersey number he will use.

According to several reports, Aston Villa spent up to 35 million euros or around Rp. 718 billion to buy Gomes from Wolves

The Brazilian was one of Wolves' standout performers during the 2025/2026 season, although the club was ultimately relegated.

During that season, the 25-year-old player appeared in 41 matches in various competitions for Wolves and scored one goal and assist in each of them for a total of 3,192 minutes of playing time.

Aston Villa will become Gomes' second English club after three and a half seasons with Wolves. Prior to his England career, he played for Brazilian club Flamengo from youth level.

Gomes is the second new player brought in this summer's transfer window after previously landing Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi.

Gomes' presence is certainly an important addition to Aston Villa's midfield, which lost senior midfielder Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.

In addition, several reports have reported that Aston Villa is getting closer to releasing key midfielder Morgan Rogers, who has been strongly linked with Chelsea.
