Atletico Madrid and Sporting Lisbon have announced that they have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand to the Spanish team.
The player signed a contract with "Los Rojiblancos" that extends until June 30, 2031.
Neither club disclosed the financial details of the deal, but media reports indicated that it was worth up to 40 million euros ($46 million) plus five million euros in additional incentives.
The Atletico Madrid website stated that Heulmand (27 years old) is distinguished by his physical strength, ability to control the ball and his good reading of the game, which gives him an advantage in anticipating play and contributing to building attacks and distributing the ball.
The Danish midfielder has played 141 games, scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists for Sporting since joining the Portuguese team from Italian side Lecce in 2023.
Hjulmand led the team to win the Portuguese league title twice in a row in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons, in addition to the Portuguese Cup.
Hjulmand has made 27 international appearances for Denmark since his international debut for his country in 2023.
