Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed his country's support for maintaining the momentum of negotiations between the United States and Iran, calling for a comprehensive agreement between the two countries that would be acceptable to the countries of the region.
Wang Yi’s remarks came during his meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in Beijing, where they discussed developments in the situation between the United States and Iran. The Chinese side stressed the priority of protecting the existing memorandum of understanding, maintaining the momentum of negotiations, and quickly reaching a comprehensive agreement that is acceptable to the concerned parties, the countries of the region, and the international community.
Wang stressed that the current ceasefire remains fragile, considering that negotiation is better than fighting, and dialogue is better than confrontation. He expressed his country's welcome of the launch of US-Iranian negotiations and its readiness to work with Saudi Arabia to contribute to reducing tension and achieving peace and stability in the region.
He also noted China’s readiness to support a greater Saudi role in international and regional affairs, and to enhance joint coordination within the framework of the United Nations in a way that contributes to building a more just and equitable international system.
Regarding bilateral relations, Wang described Saudi Arabia as an important strategic partner for China, stressing his country’s keenness to continue exchanging high-level visits and expanding practical cooperation in various fields, from investment and energy to green development.
For his part, the Saudi Foreign Minister expressed his country’s pride in its relations with China and its adherence to the One China principle, stressing the desire to enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges and expand cooperation in the fields of investment, finance, energy and artificial intelligence.
He added that Saudi Arabia supports the global initiatives put forward by China and is ready to enhance multilateral coordination with it, noting his country’s appreciation for the constructive role that Beijing plays in calming the situation in the Middle East and working to establish peace and stability.
