New surveillance footage, shown for the first time in court, revealed details of Tyler Robinson's movements hours before his alleged assassination of conservative American activist Charlie Kirk in September 2025.

The footage showed Robinson, 23, wandering around the Utah Valley University campus, then "leaving and returning in different clothes" before going up to the roof of a building, where he is believed to have shot Kirk.

The prosecution also submitted a report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stating that DNA samples likely belonging to Robinson and his former transgender lover, Lance Twigs, were found on a towel that had been wrapped around the weapon near campus, as well as on a screwdriver found on the roof.

Former investigator David Hall said Robinson, who came from an area three hours away, met with representatives of the Turning Point USA organization, had lunch at a Chick-fil-A restaurant, and then returned walking with a limp, likely because he had concealed a gun under his clothes.

When asked why he believed another clip, in which a person wearing different clothes appears, was of Robinson, he explained: "The shoes are the same. From watching the video and seeing Mr. Robinson, I believe it is the same person... He is wearing different clothes, and he walks in a way that suggests he has a limp."

The evidence was presented during a preliminary hearing to determine whether the case would go to trial, while the prosecution intends to present further evidence, including an interview with Lance Twigs, to whom Robinson allegedly confessed the crime via text messages.

The judge rejected the defense's objections to showing the video clips, and also rejected its request to prevent the media from covering the sessions, except for banning the broadcast of some shocking images.

Kirk's widow, Erica, attended the hearing along with members of his family, while Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted of the charges against him.
