Kim Jong Un declares "war on corruption" within the North Korean military

War on corruption in North Korea
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in military meeting

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un denounced corruption within the military during a rare joint meeting of the ruling party, government and military leadership in Pyongyang.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the meeting was held to warn against what it called "counter-revolutionary and anti-socialist activities," with a focus on corruption issues within institutions.

The meeting addressed the case of a former military official, the former deputy director for organizational affairs in the General Political Bureau of the People’s Army, who was convicted by the Supreme Court on corruption charges, including abuse of power, receiving bribes and embezzling funds.

Kim pointed to the seriousness of these practices, declaring what he called an "all-out war" against corruption, bureaucracy, and abuse of power, calling on officials to adhere to integrity and put the interests of the people first.
