De la Fuente says Spain doesn't want to rush into the semifinals

Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente said his team does not want to rush into thinking about the 2026 World Cup semifinals, because their current focus is only on defeating Belgium in the quarterfinals at the Los Angelese Stadium, United States.

"We're only thinking about Belgium. As long as we don't get past the quarterfinals, we won't talk about our next opponents. The semifinals, for now, aren't on our minds," De la Fuente said, as quoted on the Spanish national team's official website on Friday.

Spain had the best defense until the quarter-finals, as they were the only team yet to concede a single goal.

La Furia Roja have won four and drawn one of their five matches at the 2026 World Cup so far. Their only draw was a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opening Group H match.

Their last victory was a 1-0 victory over Portugal thanks to a last-minute goal from Mikel Merino. That victory took Spain to their first quarter-final since winning the title in 2010.

"Confidence grows as the game progresses. Winning always strengthens our belief in the work we've done, but tomorrow's game will be very different," said De la Fuente.
