Egypt and Russia announce crucial developments in one of their largest joint projects

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov announced a crucial step in identifying the industrial developer for the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal.

This came during a phone call received by the Egyptian minister on Wednesday, July 15, from the Russian minister, in which the Egyptian side was officially notified of the announcement of the selection of the industrial developer, which paves the way for the launch of investments and the start of a new phase of bilateral cooperation.

During the call, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty emphasized the crucial importance of this step in activating operations in the Russian zone, attracting investments, and commencing actual operations in the coming period. Abdel-Aty noted that this positive development complements the constructive discussions he held with his Russian counterpart and representatives of major Russian companies during his official visit to Moscow in April 2026.

For his part, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov commended Egypt's tireless efforts in launching and operating the Russian industrial zone. Alikhanov praised the advanced legislative steps and the exceptional incentives and facilities provided by the Egyptian side to support this promising project, emphasizing Moscow's full commitment to activating the industrial zone and continuing joint coordination to develop all aspects of investment and trade cooperation between the two friendly countries.
