The Egyptian Ministry of Industry announced the launch of the ambitious "Sun of Industry" initiative as part of the state's strategy to expand reliance on clean energy.
The first phase of the initiative aims to install solar power stations on the roofs of approximately 7,000 factories distributed across various governorates of Egypt, with a total targeted production capacity of up to 1,000 megawatts.
Through this step, the ministry aims to establish an integrated model that allows for the gradual expansion of renewable energy solutions within the production sector, in line with the actual needs of industrial facilities. This mechanism is expected to contribute directly to reducing factory operating costs, decreasing carbon emissions, and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian products and industries in local and international markets.
In recent years, Egypt has faced an electricity production crisis as a result of declining domestic production and a decrease in the country's imports of natural gas. The Egyptian government has taken several measures to rationalize electricity consumption, including implementing a schedule to reduce the hours of electricity supply to homes and shops.
