Europe cut its imports of liquefied natural gas by 9.2% in June 2026 compared to May 2026, marking the third consecutive month of decline since reaching a record high in March 2026.
This information is based on data from the Association of European Gas Infrastructure Operators. The amount of gas delivered from LNG terminals to the EU gas transmission network in June was approximately 10.2 billion cubic meters. In May, the figure was approximately 11.23 billion cubic meters.
In March 2026, Europe increased its LNG imports by 10.6% compared to February 2026, reaching a record high of 13.6 billion cubic meters. Since then, deliveries have begun to decline: by 7% in April 2026 compared to March 2026, by 11% in May 2026 compared to April 2026, and by 9.2% in June 2026 compared to May 2026.
Last January, the Council of the European Union approved a regulation phasing out imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas. The ban on LNG imports under short-term contracts came into effect on April 25, 2026, and under long-term contracts on January 1, 2027.
