The Egyptian national fencing team achieved a historic feat by winning the bronze medal at the World Fencing Championships held in Hong Kong after securing a thrilling victory over Israel with a score of 39-38.
The Egyptian victory came after an exciting match decided by a single touch, allowing the national team to ascend to the world podium and adding a new achievement to the record of Egyptian sports in fencing, which has witnessed remarkable development at the continental and international levels in recent years.
The Egyptian national team managed to overcome its Israeli rival in the final moments of the match, to win the bronze medal in the tournament hosted by Hong Kong from July 22 to 30, amid the participation of elite national teams from around the world.
The Pharaohs made their way to the podium after a strong run in the tournament, starting with a 44-33 victory over Portugal in the round of 32, then a 36-35 win over Spain in the round of 16, before achieving a remarkable 45-35 victory over Russia in the quarter-finals, thus securing their place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, the Egyptian team clashed with their Kazakh counterparts and lost 41-32, before quickly regaining their balance and achieving a valuable victory over the Israeli team in the third-place match, to win the bronze medal.
This achievement is an extension of the outstanding results achieved by Egyptian fencing in recent years, whether at the level of world championships or the Olympic Games, where Egyptian players have succeeded in establishing their presence among the world's elite, benefiting from the preparation and development programs implemented by the Egyptian Fencing Federation.
Fencing in Egypt has witnessed a major boom during the last decade, as the national teams have won many medals in continental and international championships, and have made a strong presence in the Olympic Games, which has strengthened Egypt’s position as one of the most prominent emerging powers in the sport at the global level.
