The National Counterterrorism Agency emphasized that environmental awareness is part of developing a national defense character and an investment in building the resilience of the younger generation in facing various future challenges, including the influence of violent ideologies and radicalism.
BNPT Head Eddy Hartono said the younger generation needs to be equipped not only with national insight and digital skills, but also with concern for the environment as a shared living space.
"Younger siblings are the pride of their parents and the nation. In the future, you will be the ones to carry the baton of leadership," said Eddy while providing guidance during the National Defense Camp at Garut University.
He said that one of the main provisions is recognizing, protecting and loving the environment, as a real manifestation of the attitude of defending the country.
In this activity, participants learned about river basin ecosystems, riverbank forests, and the importance of maintaining environmental balance.
The learning continued with a tree planting activity as a form of implementing concern for environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, Garut University Chancellor Irfan Nabhani said that a learning approach that connects national insight with environmental conservation is an effective way to build the character of the younger generation.
It was emphasized that the meaning of defending the country today includes how society understands its environment, including understanding water management, because water is the source of civilization.
