FIFA has announced that Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov has won the award for the best goal in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, following a fan vote.
The winning goal came during Uzbekistan's match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final round of the group stage, despite the Uzbek team losing 3-1 and exiting the tournament without any points.
Shomurodov, 31, garnered 36% of the votes in the FIFA poll, beating out goals from Haitian striker Wilson Isidore and Bosnian player Karim Alabegovic, who finished second and third respectively.
The Uzbekistan national team participated in the group that included the Democratic Republic of Congo, Portugal, and Colombia, but finished last after three defeats.
Shomurodov has a contract with Roma, after spending last season on loan at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir. He also previously played in the Russian Premier League with Rostov between 2017 and 2020.
