Ford recalls more than 288,000 vehicles in the United States

Ford Motor Company, the American car manufacturer, announced a recall of more than 288,000 vehicles in the United States due to the risk of the protective covers for the roof rails detaching.

This came according to a statement issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States.

The statement read: "Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2016-2019 Explorer vehicles, as the protective covers for the roof rails may detach and fall off."

The recall includes a total of 288,314 vehicles, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that the detachment of these covers could pose a road hazard and increase the likelihood of accidents.

Distributors will inspect the protective covers for the roof rails, and necessary repairs or replacement of the clips or covers themselves will be carried out free of charge when needed.

Initial notification letters are expected to be sent to owners on August 24, 2026, with additional letters to be sent after a final decision is made on the issue, which is expected to take place in September 2026.
