The Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement that the occupation authorities released Sheikh Muhammad Hussein after arresting him inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque, noting that they handed him a decision preventing him from entering the mosque for a week.
Israeli police did not immediately comment on the decision, although they have issued similar decisions against a number of Al-Aqsa Mosque preachers in recent years.
The arrest of the Mufti of Jerusalem came after tens of thousands of Palestinians performed Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
This comes at a time when Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque are escalating, as the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs said in a report on Sunday that the occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa 26 times during the month of June.
According to the report, 4,212 settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Mughrabi Gate during the morning and evening incursions, under the protection of Israeli forces.
