French national team defender Ibrahima Konate promised his team would give everything to bring home a medal from the 2026 World Cup.
Konate's statement came ahead of France's match against England in the third-place match at the 2026 World Cup at Miami Stadium, United States, tomorrow.
"We have a responsibility to respect this match, respect the English team, and also respect all the French fans who will be supporting us in this final match. We will give everything to return home with a medal, even if it's only a bronze," Konate said, as quoted on the official FIFA website on Saturday.
Konate, who has only played once in the 2026 World Cup, admitted he could not hide his disappointment after his country failed to appear in the World Cup final for the third consecutive year after winning the title in 2018 and finishing runners-up in 2022.
France will play in the third-place playoff after losing 2-0 to Spain, with Luis de la Fuente's side making their first World Cup final appearance since winning the title in South Africa in 2010.
