Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentine national team, made his first appearance days after losing the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain.
MetLife Stadium hosted the match between Argentina and Spain last Sunday evening, where the latter won 1-0 thanks to Ferran Torres.
Lionel Messi went to the “Antonio Di Giacomo” stadium in Argentina last night to watch the match between Leones de Rosario, which is headed by his brother Matias, and Central Cordoba, where the latter won 2-0.
Messi was keen to be present at the match, as the stadium is located in his hometown in Argentina, after he traveled to his homeland a few days earlier following the painful World Cup loss for Lionel Scaloni's team.
A video quickly spread showing Messi at the stadium to support his brother and the amateur club he heads, which is in the Argentine fourth division and is in fourth place after 20 rounds.
The club was founded on January 2, 2015 and is owned by the Messi family, with his older brother Matias Messi serving as president.
As of the 2026 season, the team has been participating in the Primera C league, which is the fourth level in the Argentine football pyramid.
