United States coach Mauricio Pochettino said his team must learn from the crushing 1-4 defeat they suffered against Belgium in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Seattle on Tuesday.
According to Pochettino, his team failed to repeat the performance shown throughout the tournament, allowing Belgium to dominate the match from the start.
"This match was really difficult from the start. We congratulate Belgium, they were better than us. Today was not our day," Pochettino said on the FIFA website on Tuesday.
"We need to learn, evaluate this match, and understand why we didn't approach the match the same way as in our previous matches at the World Cup."
The Argentine coach admitted that Belgium had indeed performed better and deserved to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals.
In that match, Belgium immediately took the initiative to attack from the early minutes.
