Tadej Pogacar claimed victory in the third stage of the 2026 Tour de France after conquering the uphill finish to Les Angles simultaneously claiming the yellow jersey and taking over the overall leader position.
The Slovenian rider from UAE Emirates XRG put in a strong performance on the 195.9-kilometer route from Granollers, Spain, to Les Angles, France, which was the first tough test in the Pyrenees Mountains of this year's edition.
"It's thanks to Isaac who gave me extra energy today. He worked more than 100 percent on the last climb," Pogacar told the Tour de France website on Tuesday.
The victory marked Pogacar's 22nd stage win in the Tour de France and his first in the 2026 edition.
The result also gave him a two-second lead over Visma-Lease a Bike's Jonas Vingegaard in the third stage results.
Pogacar and Vingegaard actually had the same time in the overall standings. However, the UAE Emirates XRG rider earned the yellow jersey due to his better combination of finishing positions in the opening three stages.
