PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), is expanding its green shipping concept by installing solar panels on its fleet of vessels to increase energy efficiency and support the reduction of carbon emissions from the company's operational activities.
PTK Fleet Director Dewi Susanti said the company has installed solar panels on two vessels, the KM Pari and the Pipeboat, and will add solar panels to one cargo ship in 2026.
"Next, we plan to install solar panels on six other cargo ships in stages until 2029," said Dewi, after the Coastal Education PTK activity, at Tangkoko Beach, Bitung, North Sulawesi, Saturday.
With this plan, the number of PTK ships utilizing solar energy is targeted to reach nine units by 2029
PTK is a maritime logistics and transportation services company that has four business lines, namely supporting vessel providers, port services, shorebase , and ship agency services.
According to Dewi, solar panels are used to support the electricity needs of a number of equipment on board the ship, thereby reducing the consumption of fossil fuels in ship operations.
He said the implementation of this technology is part of the company's gradual steps in supporting the energy transition in the maritime transportation and logistics sector.
