Purbaya says S&P's credit rating breaks Indonesia's negative sentiment

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa believes that Standard & Poor's  Global Ratings' decision to maintain Indonesia's credit rating proves that a number of negative sentiments against the national economy are unfounded.

As is known, S&P, in its report titled "Indonesia Ratings Affirmed At 'BBB/A-2'; Outlook Stable," reiterated Indonesia's long-term credit rating at BBB and short-term at A-2 with a stable outlook.

"The positive thing we can take from this S&P statement or rating is that from the beginning of the year until now, we have been constantly plagued by negative news, such as our rating being lowered, our budget being brutally enforced, and so on. This has given the impression that our debt rating will be lowered, not just the outlook," Purbaya said in response to the views of one of the factions at the 25th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives  of the Fifth Session

Purbaya said S&P's decision to maintain Indonesia's credit rating was good news and demonstrated the international rating agency's confidence in the government's policy direction.
