Putri KW aims for first Super 1000 semifinal at China Open

Indonesian women's singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani is aiming for her first BWF World Tour Super 1000 semifinal berth after starting the 2026 China Open with a convincing victory.

The sixth seed eliminated host representative Han Qian Xi in two straight games 21-16, 21-16 in the round of 32 in Changzhou, China, on Tuesday.

"I've never reached the semifinals of a Super 1000 event, and I hope I can do it here. That's the first goal. Looking at the draw, there should be a decent chance, but I can't underestimate anyone because this is the Super 1000 level. Let's focus on one thing at a time," Putri said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) after the match.

Putri performed quite solidly, although she still had to adjust to the windier court conditions compared to her match at the 2026 Japan Open last week.

"Thank God, I won and didn't have any injuries today. Overall, I'm quite happy with my performance. The homework is more about adapting to the field, as the conditions are a bit different from those in Japan, with it being windier," said Putri.
