Indonesian women's doubles badminton players Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum overcame a three-game drama against the United States' Lauren Lam/Allison Quynh Lee after winning 17-21, 21-11, and 21-19 in the round of 16 of the 2026 China Open which took place at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Changzhou.
Rachel said the key to winning with Febi was to play as hard as possible and not make mistakes that would benefit the opponent.
"On the court, we actually had the advantage in the first and early third games, but they were always ready for our powerful shots. So, we were the ones who were less confident in the direction of their returns," Rachel said, as quoted in an official PBSI statement.
Meanwhile, Febi assessed that the Lauren/Allison pair was a very solid pair in carrying out a defensive scheme.
"I kept attacking, but it was hard to get through. At the critical moment, I just reassured myself that I could still do it, and it wasn't over yet. It was more of a non-technical issue , " Febi said.
In the quarter-finals, Rachel/Febi will meet Chinese pair Li Yi Jing/Luo Xu Min.
"Tomorrow in the quarterfinals, we want to win again. But there's a lot to prepare for, reflecting on the previous match. We'll have to maintain our condition," Rachel said.
The match in China was the first meeting between the two women's doubles teams during their careers.
