The Directorate of Criminal Actions for the Protection of Women and Children and the Eradication of Human Trafficking at the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police Headquarters revealed that there has been a proposal to establish a special directorate for handling women and children in seven regional police this year.
According to the Head of the Operations and Development Sub-Division of the PPA-PPO Directorate at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, AKBP Ema Rahmawati, the establishment of the PPA and PPO Directorates at the regional police level will be carried out in stages considering that handling criminal cases involving women and children is increasingly complex.
The seven regional police in question are the Gorontalo Regional Police, the Riau Regional Police, the Riau Islands Regional Police, the Aceh Regional Police, the Banten Regional Police, the Bali Regional Police, and the Lampung Regional Police. Twenty-five district police (Polres) are subordinate to these seven regional police.
He explained that the establishment of the PPA and PPO Directorates in the seven regional police is still in the discussion stage and is being finalized by the National Police Headquarters because there are mechanisms that must be followed regarding the development of these institutions.
