The Corruption Eradication Commission emphasized that corruption committed by a number of regional heads could have occurred due to various factors.
"Corruption often doesn't arise from a single factor, but is influenced by various aspects, both those related to individual integrity and systemic weaknesses that open up opportunities for irregularities," KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists.
However, Budi said, the Corruption Eradication Committee acknowledged that one of the factors causing regional heads to commit corruption was the high political costs in general elections and regional head elections .
According to him, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) acknowledged this after discovering a link between funding support for running in elections or regional elections and the efforts of elected regional heads to gain benefits after taking office.
