The Indonesian House of Representatives confirmed that discussions on the Draft Law on Asset Confiscation are still ongoing, following information on social media that said parliament had rejected the ratification of the policy.
"It is not true that there are hoaxes in the media, mostly from anonymous accounts, saying that the DPR rejects the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill," said Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, during a public hearing on the Asset Confiscation Bill at the DPR Building.
He explained that to date, the DPR has heard the aspirations of at least 24 community groups, including students, experts, and civil society organizations. Meetings to gather input will continue.
"In fact, this has been the third session of the gaspol session , followed by the RDPU (public hearing), continuing to discuss the drafting of this bill," he said.
The Asset Confiscation Bill is a new regulation in the Indonesian legal system that has not been regulated at all in previous laws.
Therefore, said Habib, the discussion of the draft took time to receive input from various parties.
"If we were to hold a public hearing on other laws that are amendments, such as the Criminal Procedure Code or the National Police Law, where there aren't many articles to discuss, we would have to spend quite a long time, let alone this law, which we were going to formulate from the start," he said.
However, Habiburokhman emphasized that Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives will expedite discussions on the Asset Confiscation Bill.
