Cardiologist Dr. Natalia Vasyukova points out that many people start their day with a cup of coffee, even though this may cause trembling hands, rapid heartbeat, and a slight feeling of tension.

She said: "Caffeine reaches its peak concentration in the blood 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, and temporarily raises heart rate and blood pressure. When coffee is drunk on an empty stomach, caffeine is absorbed more quickly, making its effect more pronounced."

She added: "Many people believe that rapid heartbeat, internal trembling, and mild tension are symptoms of anxiety, when in fact they are due to the effect of caffeine in increasing heart rate."

The doctor explained that upon waking, cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for promoting alertness and readiness to begin daily activities, rise in the blood. For the first 30 to 45 minutes after waking, the body is in a state of normal activity, so drinking coffee during this period doesn't provide a significant energy boost, as the effects of caffeine coincide with the peak of cortisol activity.

She noted that there are no strict rules or ideal timing for drinking coffee, but that people who are more sensitive to caffeine may benefit from waiting a while after waking up before consuming it, which may help avoid hand tremors and rapid heartbeat.

She added that coffee itself does not harm the heart in healthy individuals. Consuming up to 400 milligrams of caffeine daily, equivalent to three to four cups of coffee, is considered safe for healthy adults. A single dose of up to 200 milligrams, equivalent to about two cups, does not usually cause a significant increase in blood pressure. Pregnant women are advised not to exceed 200 milligrams of caffeine per day. She emphasized that moderate caffeine consumption helps to energize the body and improve concentration.

She concluded by saying: "Coffee is a natural part of the daily routine, but it is best to consume it in moderation, avoid drinking it on an empty stomach, and preferably without sugar. If one cup of coffee causes heart palpitations or frequent hand tremors, it is necessary to consult a specialist doctor and undergo the necessary examinations."
