Venezuelan authorities have announced that the death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck the country on June 24 has exceeded 3,000 people.

Venezuelan parliament speaker Jorge Rodriguez said in a post on the social networking site X on Sunday that the death toll had reached 3,342 and the number of injured was 16,740.

Rodriguez added that government data indicates that 17,345 people have been displaced, and more than 86,000 families have received aid, with 9,585 tons of food distributed to those affected.

The earthquake resulted in the complete destruction of 190 buildings and damage to another 856 buildings.

During the relief operations, 6,462 people were rescued, and a total of 23,820 people received medical treatment in hospitals.

It is worth noting that the earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24th measured 7.5 on the Richter scale, making it the strongest earthquake in the region in recent years.
