Dr. Olga Yamilova, Associate Professor at the School of Preventive Medicine at Pacific University Medical Center, stated that red watermelon is harmful to kidney patients.

The doctor points out that excessive consumption of red watermelon is harmful to kidney patients and those suffering from diabetes as well.

She says: "For kidney patients prone to edema, watermelon puts a strain on the urinary system. Because it is a diuretic, meaning it has a diuretic effect, it can be harmful if consumed in excess. It may also cause the stones to move in patients with kidney stones."

According to her, watermelon is a source of easily digestible simple sugars and has a high glycemic index, which may cause a sudden rise in blood sugar levels, so diabetics should consume it with caution.

She says: "For diabetics, consuming a portion of between 150 and 200 grams is acceptable, but only after consulting a doctor and monitoring glucose levels."
