The US military announced Wednesday that it had completed the latest series of strikes against Iranian targets, which it said had “further undermined Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”
The US Central Command said in a statement on the X platform that it “launched precision-guided munitions targeting coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island during this 90-minute wave.”
CENTCOM said that “at 6 a.m. Eastern Time today (10:00 GMT), U.S. Central Command forces began executing a wave of strikes against Iran.”
Since dawn on Sunday, the United States has been launching daily airstrikes on several cities and islands in Iran, claiming it is in response to Tehran's targeting of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday evening, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced new attacks and the resumption of the naval blockade against Iran.
In response, Tehran has bombed what it says are American military installations in Arab countries, while some of those countries have announced that the Iranian attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to civilian facilities.
Iran targets any ship that attempts to cross the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage for global energy supplies, without coordinating with it or if it takes a route other than the one it designates.
On Saturday, Oman and Iran agreed to continue talks on ensuring the safety of navigation and freedom of passage in the strait, amid reports that Muscat is preparing a proposal to regulate the passage of ships through two routes with separate arrangements.
