To prevent corruption, Commission II encourages political parties to improve regional head recruitment

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rycko Menoza, believes that political parties need to improve their recruitment system for regional head candidates to prevent the recurrence of corruption cases and improve the quality of leadership in the regions.

"As a partner of Commission II, I believe this is a strong warning. There must be changes in the political party selection and recruitment patterns to ensure truly clean leaders," Rycko said when confirmed.

According to Rycko, a comprehensive overhaul of the political system is urgently needed, starting from the candidate selection process within political parties to the implementation of general elections.

He believes that high political costs are one of the triggers for corrupt practices at the regional level because candidates have to spend large amounts of money during political contests.

Therefore, Rycko urged all political parties to evaluate their nomination mechanisms to reduce political costs. According to him, the greater the costs incurred in an election, the greater the potential for irregularities once a candidate takes office.
