Træen takes the yellow jersey of the 2026 Tour de France from Pogacar

Norwegian rider Torstein Træen snatched the yellow jersey  from defending champion Tadej Pogacar after an impressive performance in the stage that crossed the Carcassonne and Foix regions, France and also made history as the third Norwegian rider to lead the overall standings of the Tour de France.

Træen admitted that he still finds it hard to believe that he has succeeded in taking over the top spot from Pogacar, who previously led the overall standings with the UAE team Emirates-XRG.

"Honestly, I can't believe it. I can feel it's real, but it's still hard to grasp the magnitude of this achievement. I saw the expressions on the coaches, the soigneurs, and everyone. It shows how special this moment is," Træen was quoted as saying on the Tour de France website.

The Uno-X Mobility rider said it took him some time to truly realise the significance of the achievement as the Tour de France is the most prestigious cycling race in the world.

"It might take a few days to really sink in. The Tour de France is the biggest race in the world, and I'm going to enjoy this jersey for as long as I can. We'll see day by day, but I hope to keep it for quite a while," said Træen.
