The South Sumatra branch of the Indonesian Television Public Broadcasting Institution recorded that the crowd attending the 2026 World Cup semi-final viewing in Palembang exceeded the target of more than 1,000 people.
"The number of viewers watching the 2026 World Cup semifinal match between Argentina and England at the TVRI South Sumatra yard on Jalan Pom IX, Palembang Campus reached more than 1,000 people," said Head of TVRI South Sumatra Eflianty Analisa in Palembang, Thursday.
He said that this number exceeded the previous target which was estimated at only around 1,000 people.
The audience came from various regions such as Palembang City, Ogan Ilir Regency, and Banyuasin.
According to him, this surge in viewers proves that the people of Palembang are really longing for an official joint viewing platform that offers comfort and security.
In this activity, his party prepared three screens consisting of a 2.5 x 4 meter LED videotron, a projector screen, and a TV screen which were placed in several corners of the TVRI South Sumatra garden yard.
"We will hold this joint viewing event at the same location until the final round and the third-place match on July 19-20, 2026," he said.
During the event, he said, his party also prepared door prizes in the form of basic necessities through a quiz for lucky spectators.
"What's equally important is that in this joint screening, we're involving around 11 MSMEs free of charge to stimulate the people's economy and strengthen community unity," he said.
the TVRI South Sumatra yard, thousands of people were also seen crowding the Kambang Iwak area to take part in the 2026 World Cup viewing event held by the Palembang City Government.
