Former unified heavyweight (minimum 90.7kg) world champions Tyson Fury and Mariusz Wach are set to enter the ring to fight for the WBC METTA Humanitarian belt at the Maz Muay Thai Stadium, Pattaya, Thailand, on July 24.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) explained on its official website, which was monitored in Jakarta on Tuesday, that the WBC METTA Humanitarian championship belt was created to recognize individuals whose humanitarian work and social commitment have a positive impact beyond sports.
According to the WBC, the belt is not just a symbol of victory in the ring, but also a form of appreciation for boxers who use their popularity and influence to help society through various social and humanitarian activities.
The belt is inspired by the Thai concept of "Metta," meaning compassion, kindness, and selfless concern for others. Through this award, the WBC aims to emphasize that boxing not only produces champions in the ring but can also be a vehicle for promoting positive social change.
