The United States (US) government has banned the import of humanoid robots , robot dogs, and new power inverters , citing risks to national security.
According to TechCrunch the United States Federal Communications Commission announced the import ban policy.
The FCC believes devices made overseas could be remotely controlled or used for surveillance by foreign governments, or used in cyberattacks.
The FCC said the exemption would apply if the government finds that the devices do not pose a risk to US national security.
The new import ban imposed by the US government covers humanoid robots, robots that move like humans and are currently in the early stages of development.
Around 15,000 humanoid robots were shipped worldwide by 2025, with the largest shipments coming from two Chinese humanoid robot manufacturers.
The US government also banned the import of power inverters . These devices are widely used in US households to connect solar or other renewable energy systems to the wider electricity grid.
Power inverter devices and installations already installed in homes are not affected by the new ban, according to the FCC.
