US forces announce the death of a soldier in northern Iraq during the bombing of an Iranian drone

P The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement Sunday that a service member was killed in northern Iraq during Saturday's detonation of unexploded ordnance resulting from an Iranian drone that had crashed earlier.

“A U.S. service member was killed in northern Iraq while performing his duties on July 18, during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance resulting from an Iranian suicide drone,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “A second service member was injured and is still receiving medical treatment for a minor injury.”

This brings to 17 the confirmed death toll of American military personnel killed since the United States and Israel launched the war on Iran on February 28.

CENTCOM announced on Saturday that two of its service members were killed and a third was missing as a result of an Iranian strike on a site in Jordan on Friday.

The military command explained in its statement on Sunday that “following a thorough search, members of the US Army found unidentified remains at the site earlier today. An examination is currently underway to verify the identity of the remains.”
