Indonesian national surfing team coach Dylan Amar said adapting to the characteristics of waves in Japan is a crucial factor in supporting athletes' performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
According to Dylan, wave conditions will be the main challenge for Indonesian surfers, so currently training is being conducted on several beaches in Bali which are considered to have similar characteristics to the competition arenas in Japan.
"Because waves are crucial in surfing, we use training courses similar to those in Japan, namely Kuta, Legian, and Canggu, for our training. This is because of the similarity in the bottom contours," Dylan said when contacted.
In addition to technical training at sea, the athletes also undergo a regular physical strengthening program. Dylan said the training is conducted five times a week to analyze wave characteristics and implement strategies.
