Twelve people have died as a result of the fires that are taking place in some Algerian states
Algerian Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Said Saïoud, said on Thursday, in a statement to journalists from the province of Bejaia, that "12 victims have been recorded across the national territory 5 victims in the province of Jijel, 3 in Tizi Ouzou and 4 victims in the province of Bejaia."
He added that "the turbulent weather conditions and strong winds prevented firefighting aircraft from intervening effectively," noting that "more than 70 percent of the fires have been brought under control."
For its part, the Algerian Civil Protection authorities announced that 118 out of 182 fires in several regions of the country have been extinguished, stressing that the firefighting operation is continuing with the mobilization of all human and material resources.
Last July, some areas of Algeria witnessed fires that claimed the lives of 6 people, according to the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport.

Washington condemns Sudanese army raids on Chad and warns of war escalation
The United States condemned the air raids launched by Sudanese forces on Chadian territory, stressing the need to stop the violence in Sudan and beyond.
The US president's senior advisor on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, said in a post on the X platform: "The United States condemns the recent air raids carried out by the Sudanese army inside Chad. Violence in Sudan and beyond must stop."
He added: "There is no military solution to this conflict, and there is absolutely no justification for expanding the violence beyond the borders of Sudan."
In another post, Paul revealed that he had a phone call with Chadian President Mohamed Idriss Déby Itno, describing it as fruitful, saying: "We discussed the recent air raid by the Sudanese army on Chad, and stressed our deep concern about the spillover of the war in Sudan across its borders, which is fueling further escalation and threatening regional peace and stability. External financial and military support for the warring parties must stop."
He added: “Separately, we discussed Chad’s vital role in facilitating humanitarian assistance to the Darfur region and supporting Sudanese refugees. I expressed our appreciation for Chad’s partnership, and we look forward to continuing our close cooperation and coordination on these and other shared priorities.”
Earlier, the Chadian army said that Sudanese army aircraft and drones bombed a convoy of vehicles inside Chadian territory, in an attack that the Chadian General Staff confirmed extended to a distance of more than 100 kilometers inside the eastern Ennedi province in the northeast of the country, near the border with Sudan.
