Riyadh has invited 194 countries around the world to attend the fourth edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on Artificial Intelligence Ethics from September 14 to 17.
This hosting comes to reinforce the pivotal role that Saudi Arabia plays in shaping the future agenda of artificial intelligence, where the need to address the most pressing ethical issues is highlighted, foremost among them transparency in algorithmic decision-making, preventing the monopolization of this advanced technology by specific countries, and facilitating access to artificial intelligence technologies for developing societies.
The forum will witness high-level participation including technology ministers, policymakers, and leaders of the world's largest technology companies, along with an elite group of academics and international experts. The forum is expected to present a package of practical and strategic solutions to address ethical gaps, foremost among them the development of binding frameworks for assessing the ethical impact of algorithms, and the establishment of independent regulatory bodies to audit and prevent software bias. Participants will also address the formulation of international mechanisms to ensure digital justice by transferring knowledge and artificial intelligence technologies to developing countries at balanced prices and costs, while adopting global standards for the protection of privacy and personal data, and developing multilingual artificial intelligence models that support awareness and cultural and linguistic diversity and prevent the cognitive decline in favor of specific cultures.
The forum primarily aims to translate theoretical principles into concrete, practical policies by implementing UNESCO's recommendations on the ethics of artificial intelligence and relying on readiness measurement tools and ethical assessment of smart applications in various sectors.
