The match between Al-Ta’ee and Al-Qadisiyah in the round of 32 of the King’s Cup witnessed a rare moment when Al-Qadisiyah managed to score its first goal, taking advantage of the home team’s goalkeeper being preoccupied with drinking water.
Al-Qadisiyah secured the victory with a clean five-goal win, guaranteeing their passage to the round of 16, but the first goal was the most interesting.
In the 16th minute, Spanish referee Jose Munuera awarded a free kick to Al-Qadisiyah in the middle of Al-Ta’ee’s field. After the referee blew his whistle, Al-Ta’ee’s goalkeeper Ammar Al-Ammar moved away from his goal and headed towards the water bottle next to the post.
While Al-Ta’ee players were out of sorts, Otavio Monteiro quickly took the free kick and passed the ball to his Italian teammate Matteo Retigi, who had no difficulty putting it into the empty goal.
Al-Ta’ee players protested strongly, demanding that the referee cancel the goal, claiming that Otavio had taken the kick before the referee allowed play to resume, but Munuera considered the execution legal and counted the goal.
Al-Qadisiyah's superiority did not stop at this goal, as the team continued its control to end the match with a big 5-0 victory, after it had started its journey in the new season with a 3-1 win over Al-Shabab in the Roshan League.
Al-Qadisiyah, led by coach Brendan Rodgers, continues to make a strong start to the season, amidst a remarkable attacking performance.
