Russian rhythmic gymnasts are returning to the World Championships for the first time since autumn 2021, during the current edition of the tournament held in Frankfurt, Germany, between August 12 and 16.
The Russian women will participate in the competition as neutrals, without raising the Russian flag or playing the national anthem, after the International Gymnastics Federation, the German Gymnastics Federation and the German government agreed to allow their participation under these conditions.
Sofia Eltiaryakova is participating in the individual qualifying competitions today, competing in the hoop and ball events in Group 4, while Maria Borisova is participating in the club and ribbon events in Group 5.
In contrast, two-time Russian champion Arina Kovshova will miss the tournament for medical reasons.
The tournament will see the distribution of 9 sets of medals, with 5 in individual competitions, 3 in team competitions, and one in the overall team competitions, with the finals starting on August 14.
The last participation of Russian gymnastics in the World Championships was in 2021 in Kitakyushu, Japan, when Russia topped the standings with 7 gold medals, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.
