Instead of 40 days via Suez: Chinese shipping company launches weekly service to Europe in just 20 days via the North Sea

Ningbo-Zhoushan

Chinese shipping company Sealegend Shipping has announced the launch of its first weekly service to Europe, which will take the Northern Sea Route along the Russian Arctic coast. Chinese television reported that on the morning of August 15, the loading of containers onto the ship "Dubai Tower" began at the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan.

The ship carries energy storage units, solar power units, and other components for alternative energy equipment. This marks the official start of weekly flights during the summer season from China to Europe. The container ship is expected to dock at European ports such as Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Gdynia. Compared to the traditional 40-day journey through the Suez Canal, the polar route takes only 20 days, cutting the journey time by almost half.

On September 22, the first ship departed from the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan bound for Europe via a route known in China as the "China-Europe Arctic Train," much of which follows the Northern Sea Route. The container ship arrived in the United Kingdom within 20 days.

The Northern Sea Route is a major shipping lane and maritime communication channel in the Arctic. This route runs along the northern coast of Russia across the waters of the Arctic Ocean for a distance of 5,600 kilometers from the Kara Strait to the Gulf of Providence.
